Worst Natural Disaster In India

Here is a list of worst natural disasters that have ever occurred in India.

Calcutta Cyclone

It is also known as Hooghly river cyclone. It took place in 1737 and belived as worst disaster in Indian History till date, Most of the building, public properties and 20000 ships collapsed. Around 3000 people were killed were killed in this disaster alone from Calcutta.

Bengal Famine!!!!!

It took place in 1770 in Bengal regime around 10 million people lost their life. The British East India Company Insisted On growing opium for export instead of the staple food crops during 1768. This caused widespread paucity of food required for survival of Bengals population.

Lahaul Valley Avalanche

Lahaul valley is situated in Himanchal Pradesh, due to excessive snow fall in 1979 avalanche took place. In this disaster almost 200 people were killed under 20 feet deep snow. Avalanche is considered as a fatal natural disaster in the world.

Gujarat Earthquake!!!!!!!!!

On 26 January 2001 an earthquake measured 7.7 on Richter scale hit Gujarat. 20000 people were killed by this. The earthquake caused severe damage to around 400000 houses and 150000 people. The rescue operation was blocked due to excessive damage to Bhuj city hospital. The area of kutch and Bhuj such as school and hospitals turned to rubble in second. Indian army, police and Red cross hospital took rapid action against disaster.
